JADE WYKE is celebrating - at the double.
For the 11-year-old from Birchencliffe has just been crowned the Yorkshire Synchronised Swimming Grade Two figures champion.
And victory at the Knottingley pool makes her the best Grade Two competitor in the county.
But she went on to complete the double when she teamed up with nine-year-old Alice Hodge to win the Grade Two duet event.
This is a first for both swimmers. They have been placed before but never won the top prize. Jade, who attends Lindley Junior School, and Alice, who goes to Old Earth, Elland, are members of the Borough of Kirklees
Synchronised Swimming Club squad, where they have attended for three and two-and-a-half years respectively.
The Kirklees club entered eight girls in this prestigious competition against five rival Yorkshire squads.
And the club also had a junior squad in the competition.
Helen Cassidy, the chief trainer, said: "It was a superb competition and I am so pleased with the results. They all performed so well."
The squad train three nights a week at a number of venues, spending up to five hours in the water.
The squad are now preparing for the North East Counties competition next month when Alice Wood, Demi-Leigh Bairstow, Jennifer Merson, Lizzy Hollwey, Bethany Jackson, Jenna Bissell, Ellie Roberts, Helen Cumiskey, Emma Winterbottom, Rosie Holdsworth, Emma Deighton and Alex Hollwey will be taking part.
