Storthes Hall can do Bay Athletic a huge favour as their Huddersfield rivals bid to keep the West Riding County Amateur League title in the town.

As the season reaches a tense finale, defending champions Bay, who have a game in hand, must make up a four-point deficit on leaders Ovenden West Riding.

The Halifax side host Storthes Hall on Saturday before completing their league schedule with a trip to Steeton on Tuesday.

Bay, who have won the league six times in eight years, are at home to Halifax Irish on Saturday, then visit Storthes Hall on Wednesday and Golcar United the following Saturday.

“It’s Ovenden’s title to lose, because we need them to drop points and we need to win up, but we’ll keep going,” said Bay secretary Kevin Burns.

Now based at Brackenhall, Bay kept their championship hopes alive by beating Ovenden 4-3 a week ago, then winning 3-1 at Lepton Highlanders in midweek, when Tom Brown (2) and Brighton Mugadza scored.

Storthes Hall beat Halifax Irish 4-1 at Warrenside on Wednesday, while Huddersfield YMCA beat Golcar 3-0 at Laund Hill.

Bay and Ovenden are both still involved in the Premier Division Cup as well.

The Huddersfield side have a quarter-final clash at Littletown on Monday, with Campion awaiting the winners.

Ovenden go to Salts next Friday, with the winners of that tie taking on Kirkburton in the semis.

Kirkburton Reserves head to Littletown Reserves in the semi-finals of the Division II Cup on Saturday.

The winners will face Hall Green United in the final.
