Yorkshire Ladies Crown Green Bowling team begin their county championship campaign on Sunday with a clash against Cumbria.

The team will be striving to go one better than last year, when they won the Waterloo Cup, by winning the main County Championship trophy at Waterloo, Blackpool.

Cumbria last played Yorkshire in 2011 when the Yorkshire lasses had a convincing 52-point win.

This year the home team will be playing at Hove Edge, Brighouse, starting at 2pm.

Although Cumbria finished bottom of their division in last year’s competition, Yorkshire will be aiming to win by as many points as possible to gain a good aggregate score in their division.

Making a welcome comeback to the away team is Helen Gilroy, winner of the British Crown Green Ladies Championship (and the Waterloo Ladies Champion of Champions last year).

In the home team, Julie Best returns who, along with colleague Karen Whitefoot, had a great start to the season winning opening competitions at Waterloo.

This year, the teams have appointed playing captains with Linda Gledhill (New Mill) for the home team and Andrea Buckley (New Mill) for the away teams.

Team managers are Sheila Whiteley (Hove Edge, home) and Joan Wrigley (Broad Oak) away.

The away team are playing at Lindal Bowling Club and support for Yorkshire is always welcome.
