Andy Cairns won the first Sixteen of the winter season at the Griffin.

Cairns showed his class by adapting well to the heavier than normal conditions.

He won the final, sponsored by Alan Hirst, 21-7 against Dave Scott after knocking out Graham Tandy by the same score.

Scott’s semi-final against Graham Sigsworth, which he won 21-19, went to a marathon 32 ends.

On Sunday, it’s the first of two qualifiers for the Griffin Rosebowl, sponsored by Lockwood & Salford Conservative Club (10am).

It’s a 31-up event and four qualifiers go to the final.
