Armitage Bridge celebrated 175 years of cricket by giving their survival chances in the Jedi Sports Championship a massive boost.

While Hoylandswaine tightened their grip on the Byrom Shield by opening a 12-point gap in the Drakes Premiership with only six matches to go, and Broad Oak did similar in the second tier, the Bridge took six points off Lascelles Hall at Dean Brook.

It was a repeat of the first ever league match and visitors Hall were restricted to 112 all out, Jonny Bishop making 36 while Aussie Brendan Walsh took five for 19 and Elliot Harrison four for 36.

The Bridge got home by four wickets at 116-6 thanks to an unbeaten 48 from B Jenkins and despite a four for 40 haul from Rahul Bakshi.

The win catapulted Armitage Bridge ahead of Almondbury Wes, Clayton West and the Hall in a section where Hall Bower and Emley – despite a six-pointer against the Wes – remain in the relegation placings with just four matches left.

Broad Oak took five points at Hall Bower, who totalled 169-9 thanks to Wajid Hussain’s 81. Dylan Bailie took four for 30.

Javaid Ahmed and Khan took three wickets apiece for the Bower, but Broad Oak stayed on course for the Premiership thanks to 41 from skipper Lee Baxter, 33 from Aussie Jarryd Vernon and 39 not out from keeper Tom McCreadie.

In the top flight, Hoylandswaine look unstoppable as they chase a second title in three seasons after a six-wicket win against Shelley.

The home side were bowled out for 141, in which Hasnat Yousaf hit 45 and skipper Greg Wadsworth 25 as Zafir Patel and Richard Wilkinson picked up three wickets each. Swaine never looked like missing out and with 46 from Ryan Robinson, 34 from Alex Morris and 34 not out from Yasir Abbas they eased home.

Second-placed Shepley took five points off Slaithwaite, despite a spirited unbeaten 110 from Aussie Nathan Freitag.

His effort, added to 65 from Dave Berry, meant Slaithwaite reached 217-3 in reply to a Shepley total of 274-6 in which skipper Danny Glover led the way with 61 and both Amar Rashid and LIam Wiles had half centuries. Young Harrison Quarmby picked up three wickets to underline his promise.

Barkisland moved third by beating rivals Scholes at Woodfield.

Jamie Summerscales hit 82, Alex Kaye 48 and Luke Bridges 44 as the home side put up 258-8, Tom Brook taking four wickets.

Scholes never got seriously in the hunt despite 81 from Pete Drysdale, batting in the middle order due to illness, and 39 from James Noble as leg-spinner Chris Williams picked up four for 63 and off-spinner Matt Steers four for 71.

At the bottom, Holmfirth look to be heading for the drop after being bowled out for just 45 by Golcar.

Steve Whitwam took six for 20 and Will Hinchliffe four for 21 to leave Holmfirth stunned and James Howson took Golcar to an eight-wicket win with 27.

Meltham also failed to pick up points as they lost by four wickets at home to Elland.

Alex Clegg hit 38 in Meltham’s 148, but the visitors got home thanks to an unbeaten 93 from Fahid Rehman.

Delph beat Honley and Kirkburton beat Skelmanthorpe in the other games.

Kirkheaton stayed on course for the Cedar Court Conference title thanks to a sound win against Birkby Rose Hill.

Almondbury moved second with a win as Cumberworth lost.
