ARMITAGE BRIDGE scored a thrilling victory at Almondbury Wesleyans – where the game hinged on the fall of just one wicket.
The Bridge batted extremely well to post 259-3 in difficult conditions, with no-one scoring more than 14.
They also bowled and fielded to an extremely high standard and restricted the Wesleyans to 246-2.
There was also a thriller at Slaithwaite, who totalled 221-2 but were pipped by Golcar (246-4). Once again only six wickets fell in the whole game.
Biggest margin of victory was at Clayton West (314-3), who overwhelmed Kirkheaton (254-9). Clayton’s batting and bowling was just too strong as they had the top scorer of the schedule in C Power (32no), backed up by A Rank (19no). For the bowlers, Power took two for five, T Bayard also two for five, J Denis two for nine and J Thornhill two for four.
Best individual bowling performance was by A Cuthill of Thongsbridge, who took two for nought at Holmbridge. Thongsbridge totalled 255-2 and Holmbridge 247-4. Cuthill also scored 24 not out while B Whitwam scored 23 for Holmbridge.
The home side, Kirkburton (265-3), had a comfortable win over neighbours Cumberworth (258-7), each side scoring well considering the conditions, but it was the Kirkburton bowlers who swung the match for the home side – J Wimpenny (2-0) and M.Crooks (3-1) being the best. For the visitors, J Greig scored 17 while A Dyson had 18 for the home side.
Biggest wicket haul of the day was by A Devitt of Lascelles Hall (283-7) at Shelley (242-5), taking four for five. G Castle also scored 22 not out for the visitors as they created a winning margin of 25.
Another strong performance by Scholes (264-1) saw Meltham A (242-9) crumble against stronger batting and bowling.
R Hawley (17no) was the leading batsman, while S Thompson (2-1), L Mortimer (2-4), and L Ellis (2-9) were the pick of the bowlers.
