Cawthorne then got home for the loss of just three wickets to book their place in the Drakes Premiership next season.

Tom Brook took a tremendous haul of seven for 39 to keep Scholes on targetfor the Byrom Shield.

His effort reduced Kirkburton to 83 all out after being put in at Chapelgate, Jonny Butterfield remaining unbeaten on 33.

Tom Chadwick then hit48 not out and he and Pete Drysdale knocked off the runs to keep Scholes 13 points clear and needing just two more wins for the Drakes title.

That was one of only three top-flight matches to escape the rain, the others being at Moorlands and Slaithwaite.

Golcar were six-wicket winners at Moorlands thanks to 74 from skipper Steve Whitwam and 31 not out from Aussie Tim Welsford as they chased down 123.

Welsford took five for 59 in the Moorlands innings and Whitwam four for 10.

At Slaithwaite, Barkisland piled up 280 with Kiwi Tim Seifert hitting 87 and Alex Scholefield 56, despite Chris Kilner and Alex Walker taking three wickets apiece.

Leg-spinner Chris Williams then claimed six for 73 as struggling Slaithwaite were sent back for 161.

Hoylandswaine hammered 376 at home to Skelmanthorpe with both Ryan Robinson and Ben Potter clubbing centuries in their rain-rule victory

Robinson finished with 127 and Potter 121.

Skelmanthorpe replied with 128-5

Another man with a ton was Tim Taylor of Honley, but they lost on the ran rule at Delph, who finished on 249-7 in reply to the visitors’ 270-8.

Taylor had 109 and Simon Kelly 89, while Taylor claimed three for 72 against a Delph line-up in which Chris Laker had 55.

Shepley beat Elland in another rain-affected game at Hullen Edge.

Shepley posted 189 with Oli Davidson hitting 59 and Amar Rashid 51 – Nishant Desai taking five for 46 and Robin Broom five for 51.

Elland replied with 133-7, Niall Lockley getting most of them with 83 while Nasir Jamal took four for 27.

Shelley got home against Broad Oak after rain interrupted their match.

Shelley were 178 all out, Louis Sykes hitting 43 and Ibrar Younas 34, while Daniel Taylor took four for 26 and Alex Slack three for 34.

The Oak managed 115-6 in reply with Johnny Greaves 45 and Harvey Booth 35. Mo Bhoola claimed three for 16.

There was a ton for Meltham’s Aamir Afzal in the Championship, where his 116 helped the Mean Lane side to a total of 261-7 against Kirkheaton.

Muhammad Kashif and Ibrar Hussain then got to work with the ball, claiming four for 51 and four for 24 respectively as Kirkheaton were dismissed for 119.

In the Cedar Court Conference, Rastrick remain top despite losing at home to Cumberworth on the rain rule.

Cumberworth totalled 211 with George Parkes hitting 53 and Ashley Littlewood 54. Rastrick were 124-2 in reply with Jacob Waterson 46 not out.
