Charlie Roebuck is back in the Drakes Huddersfield League with Kirkburton.

The 22-year-old all-rounder has left Lightcliffe and the Bradford League Division I to return to Riley Lane.

Formerly with Yorkshire and Durham at county level, Roebuck is not available this weekend when Andy Smith’s side visit Delph & Dobcross in the Drakes Premiership and entertain Hanging Heaton in the Heavy Woollen Cup on Sunday (although the weather forecast is far from encouraging anyway).

Roebuck left Kirkburton after the 2011 season when he also helped the Drakes Huddersfield League retain the White Rose Trophy (an Under 21 inter-league competition which no longer exists) by beating the North Yorkshire and South Durham League in the final at Honley.

He was a regular at the top of both the bowling and batting orders at that time and, while he has had problems with injuries, Roebuck will be a quality addition for Matt Garrety, who has taken over the cricket side at Kirkburton and brought in the likes of Indian Usman Malvi and prolific batsman Ibrar Latif in addition to promising young bowler Lewis Richardson.

Meanwhile, Scholes’ South African all-rounder signing Luke Leonard has now arrived and is available for their match at Holmfirth.

The 18-year-old is part of the Western Province set-up and is a left-handed bat and medium quick bowler.

Second-round Heavy Woollen ties on Sunday: Pudsey Congs v Mirfield Parish, Kirkburton v Hanging Heaton, Ossett v Scholes (CYL), Delph v Golcar, Moorlands v Townville (May 25), Morley v Shepley, Methley v New Farnley, Slaithwaite v Woodlands.

Drakes League supporters should note that the allroundercricket Oddfellows Cup and Earnshaw Cup get under way on Sunday with preliminary rounds.

The 50-over Oddfellows Cup is for first teams outside the Premiership and matches start at 1pm.

The 45-over Earnshaw is for second teams outside the top flight and matches start at 1.30.

Oddfellows preliminary: Cartworth Moor v Thurstonland, Moorlands v Birkby Rose Hill, Emley v Lascelles Hall, Denby Dale v Linthwaite, Rastrick v Armitage Bridge, Broad Oak v Clayton West, Denby v Upperthong, Kirkheaton v Hall Bower.

Earnshaw preliminary: Thongsbridge v Cartworth Moor, Golcar v Almondbury, Marsden v Shelley, Birkby Rose Hill v Emley, Cumberworth v Moorlands, Linthwaite v Meltham, Upperthong v Kirkheaton, Lepton v Clayton West.
