While the Drakes League prepares for Sunday’s Sykes Cup final between Barkisland and Scholes at Elland, there’s a massive clash in the Jedi Sports Championship on Saturday.

Third-placed Clayton West have the chance to close within a point of the promotion places if they can beat second-placed Armitage Bridge at Back Lane.

Key to the clash could be the form of Kiwi all-rounder Kyle Hitchman, from Hutt Districts in Wellington, who has hammered 740 runs this summer at 61.67 and taken 27 wickets at 24.93 to back up leading wicket-taker Dan Barber (35 victims at just over 16).

Armitage Bridge will be looking to 30-plus wicket-takers Haydn Charlton and Danny Moorhouse to produce the goods with the ball, while their batting is fronted by another Kiwi, teenager Jaycob Curtling, who has 568 runs at 37.87.

There is also a belting clash in the Cedar Court Conference, with leaders Rastrick taking on second-placed Denby at Round Hill.

That could turn into a battle between Rastrick’s top batter – Jacob Waterson, who has 982 runs at 89.27 – and Denby’s leading bowler Don Bandula, who has 41 victims at 13.

Rastrick’s 47-wicket Jordan Ghani might have something to say about that, of course, as might Denby batsman Qaiser Rashid, who has 609 runs at 60.90.

Umpires have been confirmed for the Fired Up Paddock Shield final between Barkisland and Honley at Woodfield on August 16.

They are Almondbury’s John Wood and Slaithwaite’s Roger Harrison.
