CAWTHORNE were last year’s runners-up to Arrow Central League champions Hoylandswaine (who subsequently moved into the Drakes League), and they began their quest for the top-flight crown with a very convincing win.
Mirfield were the unlucky side on the wrong end of a 212-run hammering as the Barnsley side rattled up 262-9, Adrian Wilford top-scoring with 54, Liam Wiles (53) and Chris Mosley (40).
Wilford then followed up with four for nine from 6.2 overs as Mirfield were blown away for just 50, only one man (R Gledhill) getting into double figures.
Last summer’s strugglers Edgerton & Dalton made a positive start against Azaad, with Ahmed and Rafiq scoring 63 and 65 respectively to steer the Dalton-based side to 235-7. Rafiq then weighed in with four for 22 and Nazir 4-61 as Azaad were bowled out for 162.
Newly-promoted Penistone got the better of Flockton – the side who had beaten them to the Section A title last season.
Four wickets for J Dalton and three from C Hawley had Flockton in big trouble and they were dismissed for 124, a target which Penistone’s batsmen knocked off for the loss of four wickets.
Peter Pickford and Steve Roebuck each cracked 117 apiece as Denby hit the day’s top total of 318-4 against Nortonthorpe, who could only make 210-6 in reply.
