DRAKES League cricket is becoming a paper-free zone.

Scores this season will be submitted on-line rather than through the old paper leaf form.

New match and registration secretary Phil Senior has created a spreadsheet to be used by all Drakes Premiership, Frank Platt Championship and Cedar Court Conference clubs to send the League and Examiner.

It’s hoped the system will help alleviate mistakes, smooth recognition of unregistered players and speed up collation of averages.

Senior – confirmed as successor to Yvonne Collins – gave a demonstration on how the system will work to clubs at the latest league meeting.

“I was very pleased the way Phil’s presentation was received,” said League chairman Trevor Atkinson.

“On the whole, the idea was met with great enthusiasm, there was no dissension from any of the club representatives and, overall, there was positive feedback.”

Another presentation will be held for those directly involved in submitting scores ahead of the season on April 19.

There will also be a compulsory meeting for all club captains, which has been pencilled in for Tuesday, April 3, at Almondbury Cricket Club (7.30pm).

All first and second XI captains are expected to attend, along with the League Executive and Umpires Association representatives.

The aim is to heighten awareness of what exactly is expected of captains this season, to remind them of their responsibility to the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and to take on board the new ECB and YCB disciplinary code.

Clubs have also been told the minimum standards required following ground inspections carried out last year, plus League requirements on child welfare.
