THE Wimpenny brothers – not the building firm, but Scholes’ second teamers – carved out what is possibly a unique event in Drakes history.
Both Mark and Richard slammed centuries in the Crowther Cup first round tie against Clayton West.
Brothers scoring centuries in the same innings of the same match is pretty much unheard of, but the fact both hit 14 boundaries in their respective tons and in each case three of those were sixes, is also remarkable.
The two combined tons, Mark finished unbeaten on exactly 100, while Richard closed on 114 not out, helped Scholes total 272-2, which proved far too many for Clayton West who were restricted to 178-9 in reply.
Indeed it was an excellent weekend all round for the Wimpennys, as Mark finished just seven short of a century the previous day in the League programme against Holmfirth, while Richard also made 59 and took four wickets.
If you know of any brothers who have achieved this feat, please let us know.
