TOP Drakes League player Arron Lilley has signed a professional contract with Lancashire.

The Delph & Dobcross all-rounder, 21, has played regularly with the Red Rose Seconds this summer and now steps up to the full County ranks from the Academy.

It’s reward for his excellent form this summer as he scored 1,008 runs in the Huddersfield League’s Premiership – one of only two to achieve the feat (Honley’s Simon Kelly was the other).

Add to that a Romida Sykes Cup final win and 78 League and Cup wickets with his off spin and it’s hardly surprising Old Trafford cricket director Mike Watkinson has moved to secure his talent.

Delph bowler Adnan Ghaus has also been given a Scholarship contract.

“Arron works really hard at his game and we are extremely pleased he’s got his just reward with a Lancashire contract,” said Delph rep Les Harrison.

“He has been on the county radar for some time and his performances with Lancashire Seconds and with us this season have been really good.

“We obviously wish him all the best and will remain as supportive as we have always been.”

Lilley joined Delph from neighbours Micklehurst four years ago. If he breaks into the first team next season, his Drakes appearances will be more limited.

Lilley was called into Lancashire’s CB40 squad for the trip to Worcestershire Royals in August and hit the only six of the 2nd XI Trophy final, as well as taking two wickets with his off spin.
