DRAKES Huddersfield Cricket League officials today postponed the opening fixtures scheduled for Saturday.

In the light of waterlogged – and in some cases, snow-hit – grounds and a continuing bad forecast for the next few days, the Executive decided to pull the plug on Saturday’s kick-off.

There will be no fixtures in the Drakes Premiership, Frank Platt Conference and Cedar Court section for first and second elevens.

Executive secretary Trevor Atkinson explained: “The intention is to re-schedule the fixtures, but at this moment in time, we have not yet found a suitable date.

“We shall make an announcement on a new date as soon as possible.”

Clubs wishing to qualify players for the Sykes Cup and Paddock Shield are advised to send complete team sheets in to the registration secretary.

The Heavy Woollen Cup committee have also postponed their opening round of fixtures on Sunday, along with the Bradford League, who were also due to start this weekend.

The Arrow Huddersfield Central League, however, have decided to leave their opening fixtures on Sunday up to the discretion of clubs and umpires.
