THERE’S another trophy Shepley would like to get their hands on – and the first step is coming up on Tuesday.

That’s when the T/20 Trophy competition gets under way, sponsored by allroundercricket.com.

Shepley are in Group 4 of this year’s event and their opening game is away to the reigning champions, Scholes.

Hoylandswaine host Skelmanthorpe in the other tie in that section, while there are six other matches taking place on Tuesday night.

In Group 1, Golcar take on Delph & Dobcross while Holmfirth host Marsden. Group 2 features Hall Bower against Elland and Barkisland at home to Slaithwaite, while in Group 3 there is action at Shelley and Honley, where the visitors are Kirkburton and Clayton West respectively.

The T/20 produced some marvellous action last summer and a thrilling final between Scholes and Hoylandswaine at Chapelgate, where a late onslaught by Don Bandula and Alan Mynett wasn’t quite good enough for the Drakes Champions, who fell two runs short of the Scholes total of 176-7 in front of a 600-plus crowd.

The sister competition, the T/20 Shield for teams outside the top flight, also gets under way on Tuesday, but only with a preliminary round featuring two matches.

Those are Kirkheaton v Almondbury and Cumberworth v Paddock, and the winners will play each other at the next stage the following Tuesday, June 25. Cawthorne are current Shield holders.
