Hoylandswaine eye slot in Black Sheep final

HOYLANDSWAINE will face York in the semi-finals of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy. They will play at Haigh Lane on Sunday, July 21.The other semi-final on the same day is between Woodhouse Grange and Woodlands. The fast-improving champions are at Scholes today in the Drakes Premiership.

Well done Bob

CONGRATULATIONS to Shelley stalwart Bob Haigh who celebrated his 80th birthday last Sunday.Bob still produces an informative newsletter for all at Westerley Lane, which reported an unfortunate incident for Idris Jones and his wife June when they turned up to watch the club at Holmfirth.Idris was just parking the car on their arrival when Bilal Khiljee launched a six straight through their windscreen!

Heavy duty

IT’S Heavy Woollen Cup crunch time for three of our Drakes League clubs tomorrow.Skelmanthorpe have what looks a cracking home fixture against Wakefield Thornes, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.Barkisland are also at home, this time to Hanging Heaton, while Scholes are on their travels to New Farnley, having got through the first two rounds on a bowl-out (against Jer Lane) and the toss of a coin against Pudsey Congs. The other quarter-finals is Townville v Birstall.Kirkburton are our only survivors in the Crowther Cup quarter-finals (for second teams). They are at home to New Farnley Seconds.

Dead-eye Ash

Many cricket watchers will have noticed that a fan from Sheffield won £50,000 in a bowl-out at Trent Bridge, during the final England v New Zealand ODI. He hit three stumps, then two, then one in succession to land the cash.So who is the most accurate bowler in the Drakes League? At the moment it’s Ashley Smith of Kirkburton Seconds, who has 13 clean bowled. In the first teams, it’s Chris Lloyd of Moorlands with 12.

Running scared

spare a thought for Paul Girardi at Kirkheaton in the Cedar Court Conference. Before today’s trip to Denby Dale, Girardi has batted six times in league and cup action this season – and been run out three times!Still, the opposition’s Ryan Geldart has been out lbw four times this season, and no-one can beat that record just now.
