Greg Wadsworth will return to Drakes League Shelley next season as captain.

The man who has previously coached the Huddersfield Under 13 representative side spent last season at Hunslet Nelson, scoring 270 runs at an average of 16.90.

Wadsworth (inset) had two years in his previous spell at Westerley Lane – scoring a century against Kirkburton in the 2011 Sykes Cup – and got heavily involved behind the scenes.

The club, who finished fourth bottom of the Drakes Premiership last season following a poor finale to the summer, believe he will prove a valuable addition to their set-up.

Wadsworth is already working hard to recruit new players to strengthen the side.

Coach Simon Stead handed out prizes at the Shelley Juniors end-of-season event.

Joe Ellam was voted most improved player, while Callum Lund beat several contenders for the Players’ Player of the Year award.

The new Club Contribution award went to Jake Adams, who not only showed his skills and enthusiasm on the pitch both as batsman and bowler, but stepped up to both score for and play for the Seconds.

He also helped out with the Junior section on Friday evenings. Stead thanked everyone who helped out with the Junior section.
