It was a great day for the leaders in Drakes League cricket.

Shepley moved 22 points clear in the Drakes Premiership as they scored a three-wicket win over rivals Elland at Marsh Lane.

Dave Berry was the hero for Slaithwaite with five wickets and a top score of 88 as they moved 10 points clear in the Frank Platt Championship with six points at Clayton West.

And Moorlands took another big step towards the Cedar Court Conference title as they took six points off nearest rivals Lascelles Hall.

At Shepley, Elland posted 185-9 with skipper Paul Winrow hitting 56 and Shepley counterpart Danny Glover bagging four for 34.

Dan Wood then anchored the reply with 72 and Josh Ardron saw Shepley over the line for the loss of seven with an unbeaten 30.

Kirkburton moved within one point of second place by leaving Marsden stuck in the bottom two when scoring a seven-wicket win at Riley Lane.

Joe Smith hit 57 for Marsden, but they were pegged by Gurman Randhawa’s four for 43 as they closed on 192-7.

Any hopes the Colne Valley side had of a win were dashed by a fine 98 from Andrew Smith and a half century from Randhawa and Burton got home on 195-3.

While Marsden are now eight points adrift of safety thanks to Barkisland’s fine win against Honley – Lorenzo Ingram scoring an unbeaten century – Holmfirth remain bottom after losing a thriller off the last ball at Scholes.

Aussie Chris Morton got Holmfirth off to a rapid start with 42 and SP Singh and Chris Cowell followed up with 64 and 59 respectively as Holmfirth posted a competitive 242-6.

Tom Chadwick (64) and Louis Sykes (59) shared a century stand in reply, but Scholes were still left needing 100 off the last 11 overs with seven wickets in hand.

It looked unlikely with 40 needed off the last three, but Adam France was the hero of the hour, blasting 56 not out in just 24 balls – hitting four sixes and six fours – including a six and a four off the last two deliveries of the match.

Ingram’s century earned Barkisland an eight-wicket win against weakened Honley, who posted 208 all out thanks to Max Joice with 62 – Darren Robinson taking five for 62 and Matt Steers bagging three for 37.

Ingram finished on 118 not out in reply and Robinson stuck with him to finish unbeaten on 45.

Haroon Rashid hit 112 as Skelmanthorpe did their survival chances a power of good with victory against Shelley, Tim Sykes notching 64 as they knocked off 278-6 in which Bilal Khiljee had exactly 100.

Alex Scholefield claimed five for 91 for Skelmanthorpe, who moved above Hall Bower, who were beaten by Golcar.

Hoylandswaine warmed up for the arrowselfdrive Sykes Cup final by clubbing 300-5 against Delph.

Alex Morris moved within 75 runs of being the first man to 1,000 League and Cup runs this season with 103 before Delph were sent back for just 117.

While Thongsbridge lost in the Championship, Berry was in great form to give Slaithwaite a firm grip on promotion.

His five for 48 restricted Clayton West to 174 and then he led the way with the bat on 88 – Abdul Wahid made 66 – as the Hill Top men chalked a seven-wicket win.

In the Conference, Moorlands were in no mood to slip up as they put up 248 at Lascelles Hall with Andrew Fortis adding 76 to skipper Andrew Walker’s 44.

Walker then took three for 24 and Stephen Lane three for 27 as the Hall were sent back for 122.
