Only £77 was imposed in fines for slow over rates in the Drakes League over the past month.

That was encouraging news for officials and hard-working club members, especially as £55 was incurred by just one club in just one match.

That was Elland first XI who bowled just two overs beyond the three-hour limit in their Drakes Premiership match against champions Shepley at Marsh Lane on August 10.

The offence itself cost only £11 but, because it was Elland’s fifth offence of the season, the amount was increased to five times.

Kirkheaton and Almondbury first XIs were the others fine for being too slow, incurring £11 each for first offences in the season.

The next biggest fine to Elland’s was the £50 handed down to Emley Clarence second XI for not fulfilling their fixture against Hall Bower on August 24. They conceded the match, too.

Another £180 in fines was meted out to clubs for sending in result sheets late (£10 each time).
