THE two remaining Examiner prizes should be claimed today.

Delph’s Kamran Mirza went into today’s game at Lascelles Hall needing just two more scalps to reach 50 wickets in the League programme and snap up the £75 prize offered by this newspaper.

His only real rival is Emley Clarence’s Bilal Khilji, who with 43 to his name, needs a seven-for at Meltham, which may be a big ask.

But the tightest race ,however, is in the Conference, where Clayton West’s South African speedster Paul van den Berg needs just one more wicket to reach the target – and you would expect him to achieve that today at Back Lane, where they were playing host to Paddock.

The other man likely to get to 50 today is Holmfirth’s Javed Iqbal junior, who had been leading the way for some weeks and is now on 48 (they were facing Primrose Hill today), but Van den Berg has really come racing up on the rails with a five and two sixes in the last three games.

No-one else is close to Van den Berg and Iqbal, as the Conference men chase a prize of £50.

Barring accidents I would expect both prizes to be claimed before the end of today’s matches.

For the record, those in the running were:

Premiership: Kamran Mirza (Delph & Dobcross) 48; Bilal Khilji (Emley Clarence) 43; Amit Dani (Skelmanthorpe) 39; Vishal Bhatia (Honley) 35; Harlon Haye (Honley) and Maddy Acharya (Elland) both 32; Steve Whitwam (Golcar) and Ritchie Howarth (Honley) both 31.

Conference: Paul van den Berg (Clayton West) 49; Javed Iqbal jnr (Holmfirth) 48; Tinash Panyangara (Barkisland) 35; Javed Iqbal snr (Holmfirth) and Tom Burkinshaw (Kirkburton) both 34; Ibrar Younis (Kirkheaton) 32.
