SOUTH Australian Cameron Borgas and Salendine Nook’s Lee Baxter gave a great demonstration of power hitting as Elland went close to 200 in their latest Examiner Twenty/20 clash with Paddock.

The two men put on 167 for the first wicket, before Baxter fell to a good catch on the long-on boundary by Junaid Zafar for 73 (eight fours and a six).

Two overs later Borgas, who had struck some mighty blows, one bouncing off the roof of the Baines Hall and two more actually clearing it and landing on the bowling green, also departed, caught on the midwicket boundary by David Mellor for a superb 89 (six sixes, five fours).

Craig Fletcher hit the cheekiest boundary of the night with a ‘reverse-spooned four,’ and then took the first Paddock wicket in his opening over.

Zaffar made 22 in reply, but there was not much for Paddock to shout about in the gathering gloom as Jimmy Thornton snatched three for 18 at the death.

Leighton Morgan added another half century to the massive ton he scored last week against Delph, but on this occasion he came up empty-handed as he became one of Dave Berry’s four victims.

Usual wicketkeeper Ian Holt, who conceded just six runs from two overs when he bowled, then steered Slaithwaite home with 36 not out, supported by Josh Langfield (26no), who also conceded just six runs.

Emley Clarence gained their first win of the season of any kind when they beat neighbouring Shelley by three wickets.

Steve Sullivan (57) and Sam Scott (40) scored the bulk of Shelley’s 145-9 total, Jon Lee prising out four for 25, but that was matched by Emley’s Craig Stratford who replied with an unbeaten 56 to add to 33 from Asif Zakir.

Kirkburton claimed their first win in the competition and upset Lascelles Hall’s hopes as Darren Hinchliffe notched 63 in the 134-7 tally at Riley Lane.

None of the Hall batsman could match that and they were held up at 92-9, Wayne Seri taking three for 10.

Primrose Hill gave themselves a great chance of progressing when they defeated Hall Bower, Mohammed Taj (49) and W Nazir (46) leading them to 171.

Mobin Ahmad then claimed four for 23 as the Bower made 163.

Skelmanthorpe topped 200 at Kexborough, Amit Dani making 60 and James Dollive 37, before the hosts were shot out for 93, Tom Barber taking four for 18.

Gareth Durdin was a five-wicket performer for Broad Oak who beat Linthwaite, thanks to his five for 36 haul and a solid 58 from Joe Lumb Cup captain Jack Hargeaves, despite young Jordan Fernyhough achieving a hat trick feat.

James Noble hit eight fours and a six in his 50 as Scholes edged out Thongsbridge by three wickets, while Honley stayed on top of their group with a four-wicket win over Shepley, while Kirkheaton were eight-wicket winners over Lepton.
