HOLDERS Shepley will fancy their chances of making a second successive Sykes Cup semi-final after being drawn at home to Lepton Highlanders.

When the quarter-final draw was made last night, however, the two matches of the day will feature Hoylandswaine’s visit to table-toppers Kirkburton, while Golcar – 2009 winners – will travel to Hullen Edge to face Paul Winrow’s in-form Elland.

In the final tie Delph and Dobcross have a third home draw in succession when they entertain the solitary remaining Conference club Cawthorne.

Paddock Shield holders Scholes will play host to Elland in the Fired Up-sponsored competition for second elevens.

Cawthorne and Hall Bower provided the major shocks in the second round of the Fired Up Paddock Shield, both beating higher ranked opposition to seal a berth in the quarter-finals.

Hall Bower had a comprehensive seven wicket win over top flight Honley thanks to an unbeaten ton from Russ Evans, while Cawthorne shocked Broad Oak despite a sterling effort from Will Metcalfe who scored runs and took wickets, but still finished on the losing side.

Premiership side Honley made a useful 192-8 on their own ground, but once former first team skipper Evans got going, it was never going to be enough as the wicketkeeper finished with an unbeaten 115 for the Championship club.

For Broad Oak, Metcalfe hit 83 and Conor Woodruff 36 as the top flight side closed on 192, Billy Rayner taking four for 48 and Noel Bramall three for 47).

However, Ryan Bagshaw (44), Corey Roebuck (34) and Rayner (43no) steered the Barnsley side home by four wickets.

Clayton West from the Championship also beat Premiership opposition in Marsden by 33 runs.

Biggest total of the day was at Golcar, where Sam Gill smashed an unbeaten 134, backed up by Asif Iqbal (77) in a 335-3 tally against a sub-standard Shepley side, who made 236 in reply, mainly down to Gary Bradley’s 117.
