PADDOCK SHIELD holders Hoylandswaine begin the defence of the Second XI knockout trophy with a home tie against Elland.
The draw for the Fired-Up Corporation-backed competition had been held over because of the need for a preliminary round.
Scott Marsh’s Swaine side beat Cawthorne by eight wickets in last year’s showpiece final, and will be aiming to continue the club’s push for further silverware (the first team won the League Championship Byrom Shield last summer).
Runners-up Cawthorne have a difficult away trip to Skelmathorpe in the opening round, while in another of the competition’s top first-round ties, League champions Honley will visit Golcar.
Holmfirth entertain regular Shield winners Scholes in a Holme Valley derby, while the four new clubs, Denby, Denby Dale, Almondbury Wesleyans and Moorlands will all face each other in the preliminary and first rounds.
