Honley’s Simon Kelly was the star with the bat as the bowlers grabbed the limelight in the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League Premiership.

Kelly hit 102 as Honley put on 197-9 at Shepley, but it wasn’t enough to earn his side victory.

Shepley hit back to win the game by four wickets, Dan Wood top scoring on 72, but the star of the show for the victors was Shahzada Khan with six wickets for 62.

But Khan’s was not the most outstanding display with the ball as Elland’s Siraj Sajid took seven victims for just 35 as they restricted Skelmanthorpe to 183.

The Hullen Edge side then made home advantage pay as they battled through for a three-wicket victory.

At the top of the table Scholes maintained their seven point lead as they saw off the challenge of Delph and Dobcross.

Joe Carter hit 77 as Scholes made 260-9 and then bowled out Delph, who had Lancashire county player Arron Lilley top scoring on 80, for 239.

Second-placed Hoylandswaine also collected six points as they bowled out Broad Oak for 202 and claimed a four-wicket win.

There were also six wickets for Thongsbridge’s Zafir Iqbal in the Championship.

He claimed his half dozen victims for just 12 runs as Almondbury were bowled out for 29 – Jamie Hayes took 4-15 – and the visitors secured an eight-wicket success.
