The Huddersfield Central Cricket League looks set to go next summer.

A 20-point plan is being

considered for the remaining

Central League clubs to be transferred into the Spenser Wilson Halifax League.

The Central League has 16 clubs playing in three divisions this season, but four of those clubs are operating only one team.

A joint working committee has been looking at initial proposals for a merger of the Solly Sports-backed Central League with their Calderdale counterparts – to further promote amateur cricket in the district.

The 20-point plan looks at divisional splits, umpiring and finances among other issues.

It involves the transfer of all Central League clubs into the Halifax League, continuing the latter’s split of first and second XI’s into separate competitions.

The proposal is that the current Halifax Premier Division should remain exactly as it is, consisting of 12 teams, with Division One (or Championship) being extended from the current eight to 12 teams – two of which would be Central League teams that must meet the existing Halifax League ground criteria and full entry requirements.

The remaining Central League and Halifax League teams would be split into two regional conferences, north and south.

The latter would overcome any undue travel as it would basically place the majority of Central League teams in Conference South and the Halifax League teams in Conference North.

As part of the new YCB Pyramid structure, should a team winning promotion, from either of the Conferences, not wish to take that up they can opt to stay in the lower division.

These are proposals only at this stage, but should both management teams approve, possibly adding or subtracting ideas, then all 20 points would be put together in a presentation for all 45 clubs involved.

It will be the ultimate decision of all the clubs as to whether to proceed.
