THE Drakes League annual dinner is to be moved from January to November.

Twice in the last three years the prestigious event at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, has been badly hit by the winter weather.

Three years ago it had to re-arranged from the original date because of the heavy snowfall earlier in the week, while this year’s event was affected by snow on the night, which prevented three clubs from actual getting to Ainley Top.

And that prompted Drakes League chairman Trevor Atkinson to insist: “I’m not prepared to have the same problems recurring every year or two.

“Therefore we have taken the decision to move the dinner into November, when hopefully we are less likely to be affected by the weather.”

Atkinson should be applauded for his stance, as although it takes the event away from itstraditional date, it will make the evening somehow more relevant as it will be considerably closer to the end of the previous cricket season, rather than nearer to the start of the next!
