Huddersfield Under 15s scored a crushing win over Aire/Wharfe at Broad Oak in the Lord’s Taverners.

Having posted a 188-7 total, captain Tom Webster’s side did a compelling job with the ball and skittled the visitors for just 94.

Having had their opening match against Wetherby washed out, Huddersfield now face a winner-takes-all clash with York (who beat Wetherby in the other group game) at Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

Huddersfield made a bright start with openers Jack Cooper and Webster bringing up the first 50 inside 11 overs.

Scholes’ Cooper then fell in the 12th over for 36, being the first of a number of Huddersfield batsmen to get a start before failing to go on – including Jack Hinchliffe (32), Webster (17) and Nathan Jones (21).

The score was made more competitive as there were enterprising knocks of 29 from Harry Franklin and 21 not out from Siraj Sajid at the end, as the innings closed on 188-7.

Aire/Wharfe’s reply was struggling from the off when Hall Bower’s Alex Crane struck in the third over and Huddersfield remained on top as wickets were shared – Crane (2), Tommy Woodhead (2), Sajid (3) and Nathan Jones (2).

The Aire/Wharfe innings was done and dusted in the 28th over for 94, and Huddersfield go into the York game with a slight advantage on bonus points.

Huddersfield 188-7 (J Cooper 36, J Hinchliffe 32) Aire-Wharfe 94ao (S Siraj 3-24).
