RASTRICK Cricket Club is the place to be on Sunday.

That’s the venue for the Examiner Under 13 Cup finals day and, once again, it promises to be a cracker for the Sellers Huddersfield Junior League.

The first semi-final at 9.30am features Thongsbridge against the ‘unknown quantity’ of Birkby Rose Hill, who have not featured in the finals day before.

In the second semi-final at 12.30 are Golcar and Hall Bower, and that should be another entertaining encounter.

All four teams are vying to win the salver which was taken home by Upperthong last year.

Of the finalists, only Hall Bower (1994) and Thongsbridge (1995) have won the competition before.

Thongsbridge were the last qualifiers, winning their tie against Denby Dale.

The Holme Valley side posted 129-2 with four of their batsmen, Steven Asquith, Thomas Webster, Tommy Woodhead and Lewis Kenworthy retiring unbeaten after reaching 25 runs.

While Jacques (22) and Tyas (24no) did well for Denby Dale, they were restricted to 87-9 in reply, Ben Lindley taking two wickets for Thongsbridge.

In the Under 13 league, teams are now at the halfway point and it’s tight. In Area C, Clayton West continue to set the pace after beating Lepton, with Josh England and Alex Spivey both retiring.

Just behind in the standings are Green Moor and Emley, who had solid away wins at Hoylandswaine and Shepley and, once again, a top all-round performer finished on the losing side. That was Matthew Marsh, who took four wickets for three runs against Green Moor and then top scored with 25 but could not get his team to the required 100 total.

In Area B, Paddock were unlucky to be rained off at Marsden and now it is neck-and-neck in that section with Holmfirth and Birkby Rose Hill.

The only other game to be affected by the wet conditions was at Golcar.

In Area A, Upperthong, Hall Bower and Thongsbridge all won to remain level on 21 points – with the Bower and Thongsbridge having fairly comfortable victories over Holmbridge and Slaithwaite.

Lascelles Hall, who are desperately short of older players, could not raise a team and had to concede to Upperthong.
