PADDOCK and Slaithwaite both caused shocks in the first round of the Romida Examiner Under 13 Salver.

Area B side Slaithwaite defeated top flight Almondbury Wesleyans, while last year’s winners Thongsbridge were eliminated in the first round by Paddock.

In a close game it was Paddock’s Rashid who top scored with 27 and gave the underdogs victory.

Jermaid Tanvir (25) led Slaithwaite to their victory, despite the efforts of Almondbury’s Ben Shufflebottom (25).

Clayton West were the days top scorers hitting 189-5, as Bradley Geldart starred in their victory over Holmfirth.

Geldart retired on 27 and also took three wickets for just two runs, while other retirees for Clayton were Alex Spivey and Tom James.

In a tight encounter Meltham B failed by one run to overhaul Crigglestone’s score of 59, while Green Moor had one ball to spare in their win at Cumberworth.

The next round of the cup is scheduled to be played by Friday.
