Linthwaite are proudly flying the flag for the Cedar Court Conference Two in the Fired Up Paddock Shield semi-finals.

The third-tier Drakes League seconds spectacularly knocked out holders Hoylandswaine in the quarter-finals to earn a tie against Shepley at Marsh Lane in the last four on Sunday, July 14..

The other semi-final is the first between Kirkburton and Broad Oak on Sunday, July 7.

Linthwaite’s batsmen found top form with Kashif Ijaz leading the way on 89 and backed up solidly by Lee Renwick (61) and Gavin Dyson (35) as they put up a massive 296 – Josh Bird taking three for 60.

Hoylandswaine were never really in the hunt in reply despite Darren Lockwood hitting 46 and Scott Marsh 36 and they were dismissed for 181 with Jordan Fernyhough taking four for 23.

Adam Carter was the hero for Shepley as they beat Scholes by 39 runs at Chapelgate.

Shepley were in a fair bit of trouble with a steady loss of wickets, but Carter batted sensibly, dispensed with the bad ball and finished up with 74 as his side totalled 153.

Oliver Cox had earlier contributed 35 while Ashley Pamment was the best of the Scholes bowlers with five for 40.

Scholes made a disastrous start in reply and every time they tried to push the scoring they lost wickets. Jordan Saville, down the order, put up spirited resistance with 30, but Chris James had three for 20 and Dan Netherwood four for 21 to ensure the home side were sent back for just 114.

Jack Wadsworth with four for 10 and John Keeling with four for 21 made sure it was a miserable day for Honley and a great one for Broad Oak.

They led the Oak attack to leave Honley reeling at 71 all out, of which Ben Lindley scored 30.

Broad Oak didn’t get it all their own way, however, and were happy to get home with six wickets down.

Ashley Smith provided the inspiration for Kirkburton as they went through at Barkisland, taking four for 19 in 12 overs as the home side were dismissed for just 76 – Ben Schofield finishing 34 not out and Gavin Smith and Matt Crookes each having two wickets.

Tony Nicholson gave Kirkburton some early scares as he ripped out the top order, finishing with four for 15 from six, but Darren Lindley (17 not out) and Nick Wilson (30 not out) guided their side into the last four.
