SIMON KELLY and Chris Goulden have scooped the major prizes from the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League’s 2012 season.

Despite an indifferent season by his Honley club, opening batsman Kelly – one of only two players to reach the 1,000 mark this summer – has won the Premiership batting prize with an average of 59.00 from his 21 innings, having scored 1062 runs in the League.

And that was enough to see him finish clear of Matthew Wood, Steve Whitwam and John Sadler.

Meanwhile, the Premier bowling prize was snapped up by Elland’s Goulden whose 59 wickets cost him just 11.19 apiece, helping his team to runners-up spot in the division.

Hoylandswaine’s Don Bandula also claimed 59 wickets, but he was pipped in the averages, finishing on 12.27, while Goulden’s Hullen Edge teammate Lorenzo Ingram was back in third spot (although he wasn’t eligible for the prizes being an overseas player).

Marsden skipper Matthew Butters has again won the leading wicketkeeper prize (for the fourth time in five seasons) with a total of 33 victims, 23 catches and 10 stumpings, while Paul Winrow (Elland), Andrew Smith (Kirkburton) and Greg Wadsworth (Shelley) shared the catching prize with 13 victims each, although Ingram did pouch 17 catches, but again doesn’t qualify.

The prizes in the Frank Platt Championship were almost a clean sweep for champions Barkisland, as skipper Darren Robinson won the batting prize (583 runs, ave 58.30), Matthew Steers lifted the bowling award (47 wickets at 11.43) and Jacob Travis took the stumping prize (25 victims).

The catching prize was another three-way split between Danny Moorhouse (Armitage Bridge), Allan Greenwood (Emley Clarence) and Alex Kaye (Barkisland) with 11 each.

The Cedar Court Conference was an across-the-board success for champions Cawthorne.

George Parkes won the batting prize (439 runs, ave 43.90), the leading bowler was Paul Tasker (44 wickets, ave 8.68), Michael Burgess was the top keeper with 34 scalps, while the catching was split between two Cawthorne men, Ben Simpson and Chris Matthewman, with nine apiece.
