Kirkburton produced the one real shock of the Examiner Salver by knockout out Slaithwaite.

It was an excellent see-saw game at Kirkburton, with the home team winning the toss and batting first but soon in trouble at 10-3 to the lively Slaithwaite attack.

Ben Wright (28) and Finlay Wilson (25) pulled the innings round, both retiring, and Burton were able to close on 100-6.

Slaithwaite started well with Jack Bower hitting 25 and Harrison Quarmby 28, and they reached 70-1. But they then collapsed and were 89 all out, with Oscar Jepson taking three for eight in two overs.

The match featured some excellent catching by both teams and Kirkburton will now go on to meet Upperthong in the last eight.

Draw is: Kirkburton v Upperthong A, Skelmanthorpe A v Barkisland, Holmfirth v Lascelles Hall or Birkby Rose Hill, Marsden or Broad Oak v Hall Bower.

In the league, only four sides topped the 100 mark.

Slaithwaite posted the highest score of 171 against Clayton West with the top four batsmen all retiring, and the other three sides scored around the 120 mark – with both Hall Bower and

Mirfield topping 100 and with only 11 runs between the two teams at the end of the match.

In other games, the soft wickets and lush outfields were hard to score on and the bowlers had the upper hand in most matches.

Two bowlers took four wickets – Finn O’Dea did the damage for Upperthong A in their win over derby rivals Holmbridge after Ella Harris had retired with the bat for the home team.

In Area C, Oliver Matthews of Thongsbridge took four wickets in restricting Honley to fewer than 50 runs and setting up an easy win for the away team. Jon Rushton top scored for Thongsbridge.
