There was a shock for Lascelles Hall Seconds in their quest to conclude their battle with Cumberworth for the Cedar Court Conference Two title.

Leaders Lascelles Hall were delighted to wrap up an easy win at Cartworth Moor and secure promotion, where they bowled out the home side for 64 before racing to a 10-wicket win thanks to Adam Robshaw’s 54 not out.

And they were even more delighted when they turned up at Birkby Rose Hill to find the home side had posted 156-9 and had Cumberworth in all sorts of trouble at 38-6.

At that point the Lascelles Hall lads headed for home, confident of some silverware with just three matches to play.

But they had reckoned without an incredible match-winning stand between Martin Kilner, who finished on 50 not out, and Richard Greaves, who was unbeaten on 24 when the winning runs were scored with just two balls to spare and no-one else left in the pavilion.

Matthew Dolley with 29 was the only other Cumberworth batsman to get over 20 as Imran Farooq took four for 28 and Hamza Zafar three for 24 in a losing cause for Rose Hill, whose top scorer had been Ahmed Siddiqui with 40.

Kilner and Greaves, who not so long ago were opening the bowling for the first team, had a wicket apiece while Richard Smith with four for 54 and James Haigh with two for 40 did the bulk of the damage for Cumberworth.

The five points earned by Kilner and Greaves enabled Cumberworth to stay just five points behind Lascelles Hall in the table with the title up for grabs.

Cumberworth would have been promoted themselves had Rastrick not taken six points against Lepton.

Golcar Seconds are also celebrating promotion from the Jedi Sports Championship Two after last season’s relegation from the Premiership, having scored a five-wicket win at Thongsbridge to go to 90 points.

Richard Wagstaff hit an unbeaten 62 as Thongsbridge were bowled out for 134, Richard Hall making the biggest impact with four for 31.

Golcar then went to their target in relative ease thanks to David Woodhead with 34 and Mark Turner with 33.

In the Drakes Premiership Two there is a three-way battle for the title as leaders Skelmanthorpe are just three points ahead of Honley and Hoylandswaine with four matches to play – and Honley host Skelmanthorpe on Saturday.
