Archie honoured by teammates

ROBERT MOORE opened for Honley and scored only 15 against Elland, but he is hardly likely to ever forget his last innings as skipper at Far End Lane. When he was out, the most successful captain in Drakes League history – he is stepping down after today’s match at Delph – received a guard of honour as he left the field. It was a terrific mark of respect for the man who has guided the club to six Premiership titles, two Sykes Cups and a Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy. And Honley won the match, too, so well done to everyone at the club, who have had a sad time following the death of Tom Craddock’s mum, Janet.

Tribute match

RITCHIE HOWARTH will be back in action at Scholes tomorrow, rain permitting. The Honley legend will skipper his old Chapelgate teammates in a memorial match for his best mate, Tony Marsh, who passed away unexpectedly last winter.Marsh was a fine opening bowler himself in his playing days at Scholes – his son Craig is skipper of the second team – and a number of his former colleagues (Dave Weston, Paul Wharton, Anthony Coldwell, Paul Hertzberg and the Booths – Dave, Steve, Stuart and Mel) are turning out to honour him.

Lost, Michael?

FORMER England captain Michael Vaughan took an unexpected tour of the Holme Valley last weekend. The Ashes winning hero is currently on a charity bike ride between the England-Australia ODIs and they got lost en route from Headingley to Old Trafford.Vaughan and Co were spotted at one point heading up into Hade Edge – apparently trying to find Holme Moss!

Thanks mate!

ONE Shepley player was keen for me to include the above picture of his teammates Greg Wood (left) and Tom Denton as ‘also played’ on the Byrom Shield celebration photograph.Wood, who is captain of Sandal RU club, and Denton, who plays semi-professional football, were absent from their Marsh Lane duties when the trophy was handed over.Wood is pictured several years ago in an England age-group team and Denton when he signed for Town.So who submitted the picture? Sorry, I cannot reveal my sources.
