SAQIB MATLUB put the skids under Thurstonland with one of the best bowling displays of the season in the arrowcentral Huddersfield Cricket League’s Premiership programme.

The Almondbury Wesleyans bowler opened the attack with Darrell Sykes, and had the Holme Valley side rocking when he hit them for six of the best, to finish with six for 10 from 9.4 overs.

Greg Holmes was Thurstonland’s top batsmen with 23 as the home side were bundled out for 72.

William Binns (32no) and Jack Ghee (37no) made short work of knocking off the target to bring Wesleyans maximum points.

Another top-flight bowler to grab a six-for was Penistone’s Josh Hoyland, who finished with six for 17 from 12 overs in the home game against struggling Holmbridge, who finished on 150-9, thanks to 31 from Robert Parr and an extras tally of 30.

It was not enough to challenge Penistone, as James Stafford made 56 not out in a century stand with Duncan Richards (48) and Ian Richards (28).

Azaad were bowled out for 161 by Green Moor, Hanif Mahboob making 69 before being run out, while Mark Elsworth claimed five for 41.

But when Moor replied, they struggled to 135-7, despite Harry Howlett scoring an unbeaten 51 to salvage a solitary point.

Cartworth Moor claimed a maximum when they rolled Birkby Rose Hill over for 91, Jack Atkinson the pick of the bowling attack with four for eight, before getting home with five wickets to spare.
