Chris Kilner is one of the most dangerous match-winners in the Drakes Premiership and he’s enjoying the added responsibility of captaincy at Slaithwaite.

He feels the new-look Hill Top line-up have still to hit their potential, but the arrival of Dan Hill will help in that and he knows the middle of the table is only a couple of wins away.

The former Marsden ace explained: “We’ve had a few changes both in the First team and the Seconds, but it’s all coming together and hopefully we will crack on with a few wins.

Matt Bremner is a really good player who looks confident with both bat and ball and we’ve made some other decent signings with the likes of Dave Hales from Almondbury Wesleyans, Shabir Rashid (Holmfirth), Naseer Rehman (Hall Bower) and Max Berry (Scholes) – plus lads like Ross Thornton and Lewis Bradley who have come into the senior side and done well.

“Dave Berry always does a good job bowling and batting, and Holty (Ian Holt) has loads of experience and is really good behind the sticks.”

So what can Slaithwaite achieve this season?

“We certainly don’t want to finish in the bottom three like last season, and with Dan Hill coming in I certainly think we can finish well up,” said Kilner.

“It’s a matter of getting to mid-table and then going from there because we have some good match-winners in our team.

“The immediate objective is to get some more wins on the board and pick up the points I feel we deserve. I’m enjoying the captaincy because it really makes you think about everything, especially with the new regulations that have come in this season, and I really do feel we will move up the table.”
