Richard Sugden and Martin Hallas were the star performers as Armitage Bridge carried off the allroundercricket.com Earnshaw Cup.

Batting first at hosts Kirkheaton, the Bridge totalled 155-9 in their 45 overs, with Sugden batting through for 83 not out.

Colleagues James Moorhouse (18) and Peter Dobson (26) were the only others in double figures (apart from extras with 15) as Tom Gledhill picked up a fine four for 22 from nine overs for Kirkheaton.

Waheed Hussain was also very accurate, picking up two for 13 from nine.

In reply, Kirkheaton were behind the eight ball from the off as Hallas and Dobson got to work, and only one of the home side’s top five – Joe Fox with 17 – got into double figures.

Simon Beaumont hit 23 at No6 and Simon Whitelock 21 at No8, but they were all out for 97 in 35.5 overs as the Armitage Bridge bowlers turn the screw.

Hallas finished with magnificent figures of five for 19 from 8.5 overs, while Dob son had three for 24 from nine. Joel Harrison and Joe Barker picked up the other wickets.

All matches in the Drakes Premiership Two were abandoned, meaning Scholes remain top, while one match was finished in the Jedi Sports Championship Two.

That was at Clayton West, where Marsden Seconds were bowled out for 199 and the home side knocked them off with two down, ex-Almondbury player David Swan hitting 100 and Hywel Senior 65.

One match also finished in the Cedar Court Conference Two, with Steve Glover taking seven for 13 for Denby Dale as they ousted opponents Denby for just 42 en route to a 10-wicket win.
