Ryan Robinson hit 165 not out for Hoylandswaine in the Drakes Premiership only to be frustrated by rain.

While Scholes beat the weather and Barkisland to go top of the Byrom Shield rankings, Swaine rattled up a massive 375-3 declared against Shelley at Haigh Lane, but the visitors never started their innings and it was two points apiece.

Remarkably, that was the only top-flight match not to finish and there were only a few called off in the Jedi Sports Championship – where leaders Marsden took a firm grip by beating nearest rivals Cawthorne – and Cedar Court Conference where Lepton inflicted a first defeat of the season on Almondbury to allow Thurstonland to take over at the top.

Kiwi Pete Drysdale was the hero for Scholes as they took six points off Darren Robinson’s Barkisland to restore a one-point lead over champions Shepley at the top of the Premiership.

Drysdale’s off-spin brought him four for 45 and, with skipper Tom Brook collecting four for 65 at the other end, Barkisland were sent back for 138 despite spirited late-order batting from Robinson (46) and Matt Steers (41) after they’d been reduced to 38-5 in 20 overs.

Drysdale then anchored the reply to finish on 76 not out, taking Scholes over the line with James Noble after Max Berry had gone for 34.

Shepley were frustrated at Hill Top as Slaithwaite refused to be bowled out on 130-9, Aussie Nathan Freitag hitting 48 and skipper Ian Holt 31 as spinner Oli Davidson picked up five for 31.

Dan Wood with 66 not out ensured no problems for Shepley, with Brisbane-based Kenya opening batsman Duncan Allan also 64 not out.

Honley missed the chance to keep pace with the leading two when being rumbled for 131 at Delph, where Jamshad Ahmad and Craig Fletcher had four for 40 and four for 60 respectively.

Max Joice was the only Honley batsman to make much headway with 42, while Andrew Gleave (36) and Arron Lilley (34) guided Delph to a four-wicket win despite four for 31 from young Alec Jakeman.

Elland also missed the chance to press on as Meltham scored a welcome victory at Hullen Edge.

Only skipper Greg Finn with 39 not out got to grips with the Meltham attack as Elland totalled 123-6, and Meltham were able to secure a two-wicket win at 124-8 thanks to 29 from Darren Hinchliffe.

Andy Alsop did the trick for Golcar against one of his old clubs, Holmfirth, taking seven for 44 to secure a crushing win for the Swallow Lane side.

Golcar rattled up 256-7 despite a four for 92 return from South African left-arm spinner Justin Gamble, Jake Lockwood leading the way with 77, skipper Steve Whitwam 59 and Niall Lockley 42.

Holmfirth were never in the hunt against Alsop’s controlled seam, and six points enabled Golcar to move up the table.

Skelmanthorpe were undone by two seamers as well, Lewis Richardson taking four for 21 and Usman Malvi three for 26 as Kirkburton dismissed them for 110.

Tuseif Arshad made sure Burton didn’t have it all their own way, however, with four for 41, but Iqbal Khan guided the Riley Lane side to a three-wicket victory with 45 not out after Charlie Roebuck had hit 35.

Kiwi junior international Graeme Tryon hit another century, this time 109, as Championship leaders Marsden crushed Cawthorne after posting 223-9.

Adbul Ghafoor ensured Cawthorne never got a sniff, taking six for 41 as they were rushed out for 72.

While chasing Moorlands were frustrated by the weather after hitting 237-8 at Clayton West, Linthwaite were beaten and Broad Oak took advantage by taking six points at home to Hall Bower.

Tom McCreadie top scored with 71 and Lee Baxter had 70 as the Oak put up 219-8, Javaid Ahmed the best of the Bower bowlers with three for 73.

Jack Wadsworth and Alex Slack then got to work with the ball, taking four for 43 and three for 36 respectively as the Bower were all out for 156, Sam Baxter (31) and Russ Evans (28) the best of the batsmen.

Jonathan Waring was the star for Lepton Highlanders in their excellent win over previous leaders Almondbury in the Conference.

Waring contributed 32 with the bat (and Chris Gillespie 35) as the Highlanders reached 139-6, and then he claimed five for 42 as Almondbury were skittled for 119 despite 75 from Mirza Mobeen, Kamran Saleem picking up four for 35.

Kirkheaton upped the pressure courtesy of a 52-run win against Birkby Rose Hill.

Nathan Swift top scored with 63 and Paul Girardi had 44 in the Kirkheaton total of 190, before Richard Hall took five for 66 and Muhammad Khan three for 24 to send back Rose Hill for 138, of which Qasafi Amir hit 38.

Thurstonland won the derby against Denby Dale to go top thanks to a four for 46 haul from Lee Booth and three for 32 from Greg Holmes after Jack Oldham hit 65 not out in their 166-5 total, the Dale being sent back for 158 in reply.
