THERE was a shock first League defeat of the season for Golcar in Area C against Augustinians.

In a low-scoring game, only Rob Mitton of Augustinians overcame the conditions to register a not out 25.

It is now tight at the top with Honley winning their game against Delph and having a game in hand.

Broad Oak remain unbeaten in Area A following an easy win over Clayton West, while two 12-year-olds did the damage for Kirkburton A, with Jack Lawrence taking three for three and Nick Dyson three for eight in their win over Holmfirth.

Max Berry of Thongsbridge recorded his 10th score of 25 not out in 13 innings to keep the pressure on for a place in the Huddersfield Lord’s Taverners squad.

Not enough games were played in Area B for the results to count but the other two sections were okay.

In the League’s Under 13 friendly against Heavy Woollen, Huddersfield just lost their final warm-up game before the Lords Taverners competition.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat in sunshine at Kirkburton they progressed steadily against some accurate bowling, but then lost two quick wickets to make them 52-3.

An excellent stand of 94 between Abdul Wahid (50 not out) and Mike Burgess (38) pulled them round and some good running between the wickets enabled them to finish on a very competitive 183-4 in their 40 overs.

Heavy Woollen, who are always one of the strongest junior areas, lost an early wicket but their two Yorkshire players, I Amjad and R Hussain, dug in and dispatched any loose balls to the boundary.

By this time the rain had started to fall but the Huddersfield bowlers kept plugging away with the wet ball and with a little more luck could have taken more than the six wickets that fell.

Heavy Woollen eventually reached their target with one over to go after a promising performance from the Huddersfield lads.

The two most successful bowlers were Daniel Rushworth with two for 26 and Jordan Greaves with two for 35.
