THORNHILL & Westborough inflicted a third defeat of the season on Drakes League hopefuls in the Central League’s Premiership to take over top spot.
Nick Finnigan (three for 24) and Will Atkin (three for 43) shared the wickets out as Denby were held to 117-9 before Thornhill opener Dan Cheesbrough hit an unbeaten 74, and Neil Minto 33 not out as the home side raced to a nine-wicket win in just 16.5 overs.
Several matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled, and no doubt Thurstonland probably wish theirs had suffered the same fate at Woodfield Park after the visitors were skittled for 53.
Karl Thackray was the only batsman to reach double figures, and he had to retire hurt after scoring 11, as Tokir Sura (three for 7) led the bowlers, while there were two wickets apiece from Josh Walker John Stanger and Shabir Ahmed.
Mark Askham replied with 32 not out as Woodfield Park won by nine wickets.
Woolley cemented their place at the head of Section A after beating Azaad’s second string by five wickets.
Joe Monaghan claimed five for 34 as Azaad were bowled out for 126. Mark Nottingham top-scored with 45 when Woolley replied and took all six points.
