Three Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League clubs have pulled out of the Heavy Woollen Cup competition, while one has decided to enter.

Premiership sides Golcar and Kirkburton have pulled out for 2016, along with Drakes newcomers Mirfield Parish Cavaliers.

Jedi Sports Championship winners Cawthorne, however, are among seven clubs who have been accepted for next year, keeping the entry list at 32 clubs for both the Heavy Woollen and second-team Crowther Cup competitions.

Along with the three Drakes clubs pulling out are Baildon, Hartshead Moor, Jer Lane and Pudsey Congs.

Voted in at the competition annual meeting alongside Cawthorne are Brook Walton of Wakefield, Yeadon, Treeton, East Bierley, Whitley Hall and Hopton Mills.

Cawthorne are entering for the first time after winning three Drakes trophies in the 2015 season.

They not only took the Jedi Sports title but won the Oddfellows Cup and the T20 Shield, both sponsored by allroundercricket.com, the new Sykes Cup backers.

A proposition to reduce the Crowther Cup to a 40-over competition was knocked back, as was a suggestion to make the first-round draw of both Cups regional (to cut down on travelling).

Umpires fees have been increased from £35 to £38, however, and clubs voted to have a time limit of three hours and 10 minutes for each 50-over innings.

Competition president, Philip Radcliffe, has stepped down after five years and nominations are being sought for a replacement.

“I’ve spent a lot of time deliberating, but I have decided to step down,” said Radcliffe, who received a memento from the committee and confirmed he will continue as an umpire.

“I haven’t been able to attend as many meetings as I would like for varying reasons and, with not being able to fully commit, I feel it’s right to stand down.

“I have enjoyed my five years in office and I do feel the competition will flourish.”
