It's top batsman v top bowler in the Fired Up Paddock Shield on Sunday.

Holders Hoylandswaine travel to Linthwaite as hot favourites to reach the semi-finals – especially as they are in Drakes Premiership Two and face a side from the Cedar Court Conference (third tier).

Hoylandswaine have Huddersfield cricket’s leading run-scorer Scott Marsh in their line-up, too, and they are fresh from victory against Holmfirth ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Armitage Bridge.

But the Manchester Road side will be hoping Lee Renwick can maintain his excellent form with the ball and add to his 31 wickets so far this season.

Linthwaite have been struggling for consistency in the league this season but, with home advantage, they will be hoping to create a big shock.

The only other side from outside the top flight who’ve made it into the Shield quarter-finals (1pm) are Shepley, who will be hoping top run-getter Gary Bradley stays in form against Scholes at Chapelgate and Rob Denton can bring his massive experience to bear.

Broad Oak have home advantage against champions Honley, but Jimmy Green and Chris Woodhead are powerful with the bat and have their eye on more silverware.

In the other tie, prolific batsman David Greaves will be hoping to put Kirkburton through in their trip to Barkisland, who have their own potential match-winner in 20-wicket man Jamie Colman.

Sunday’s Fired Up Paddock Shield ties are: Linthwaite v Hoylandswaine, Broad Oak v Honley, Scholes v Shepley and Barkisland v Kirkburton.
