THE Arrow Central League are hoping to attact some new officials and are running an umpires course at Flockton WMC later this month.

Training officer Gary Rank (who is on the Drakes League panel) will be in charge of the course which runs for just six weeks, and is open to anyone.

“It is not a full course, but will cover the main things that an umpire will expect to come against during a game,” said Rank.

“Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, be they ex-players, spectators or just anyone who fancies having a go as an umpire.

“There is no charge for the course, no examinations and no pressure.”

The six-week course starts on Wednesday, February 20, (7.15).

Youngsters are being offered cricket coaching over the next few weeks.

Community coaching sessions for children aged between eight and 16 are being run at Newsome High School and Sport College each Sunday for the next five weeks.

They are being run under the auspices of the Yorkshire Cricket Board and cover all aspects of the game.

Holmfirth player Andrew Gledhill, one of the coaches, said: “The sessions are aimed at anyone interested in taking up cricket. We hope that we can then divert some of the young players into the local clubs in the areas”.

Sessions for 8-12-year-olds run between 10.00 and 11.30, while the 13-16-year-olds are coached from 11.30 to 1.00 and cost £1.
