It's Champion of Champions time in the Sellers Junior League end-of-season Under 15 Tournaments.

These are often cracking matches because the five Tournaments feature teams of similar ability, selected on their performances throughout the season.

Matches also provide an excellent learning curve and preparation for senior cricket, because they are played over 35 overs with no reductions.

Games can be played on either one day or on two nights, with each innings being suspended so that teams experience similar conditions for batting and bowling throughout.

And the losing semi-finalists contest a third-fourth play-off match to give the whole thing the ring of a major event.

A recent ECB study revealed great concern over the numbers of young players being lost to the game, particularly between Under 15 level and the senior club game.

The Champion of Champions is the top event in the Sellers sections and, this year, the semi-finals feature Upperthong A v Denby Dale and Paddock v Clayton West.

These four sides – the top performers in Under 15 cricket this season – are doing battle for a place in the final the week after next.

In Tournament A, the semi-finals are Delph & Dobcross v Almondbury Wes and Green Moor v Thongsbridge A.

Tournament B features Meltham v Holmfirth and Hall Bower v Barkisland, while Tournament C has Almondbury v Cumberworth and Birkby Rose Hill v Honley.

In the final Tournament, which is D, the semi-finals are Rastrick v Shepley and Golcar v Lepton.
