There has been a double boost for students at the Kirkburton Karate Club.

A number of club members have recently won medals at the UK Championships, with Charlotte Newton taking pride of place with a silver.

The medal winners are pictured with chief instructor Colin Hanson with, from left to right back row: Michael Harris, Helen Ward, Joseph Abbott and Grace Barnes. Front row: Bronwen Horler, Charlotte Newton and Amber Allsopp.

There next outing is next month for the BIKO National Championships to be held in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire.

And there was an added bonus with a special club training session with Great Britain and England international Natalie Williams.

The 20 times English national champion and 15 times British champions was invited by the club as part of a coaching initiative by the British Institute of Karate Organisations.

Williams, whose honours also include being world junior champion and a World Karate bronze medallist, gave Kirkburton’s students a top session of training.
