Drakes League officials are looking into events which led to the abandonment of the second XI game between Upperthong and Lascelles Hall.

The umpires in charge of the Cedar Court Conference Two match have sent a report to disciplinary chiefs.

In the game itself, Lascelles Hall posted 202-9 and were well in control with Upperthong on 56-8.

At that stage, though, there are reports of an altercation off the field in which, allegedly, punches were aimed.

There had earlier, apparently, been shouting and bad language and a confrontation over a parked car between people who were not involved in the game.

The bitterness appears to have spilled over, however, and there were angry scenes as the players left the pitch, although some did shake hands.

It is said a number of spectators were shocked and saddened by what they had witnessed, with at least one youngster very upset.

The match has been listed as abandoned at this stage, with both teams receiving two points.
