Three recent Drakes League cricketers have been awarded professional contracts in New Zealand.

Joe Carter, who won last year’s Drakes League batting prize with Scholes, is on the list for SKYCITY Northern Knights along with former Holmfirth player Mitchell Santner.

And wicketkeeper batsman Cameron Fletcher, who played with Golcar last year when he was also with the Knights, has been given a deal by Canterbury.

Domestic contracts for the six major associations in New Zealand – Mondiale Auckland Aces, Canterbury, Devon Hotel Central Stags, SKYCITY Northern Knights, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds – start on October 1.

There are two rounds of contract awards, each association giving a total of 15.

Northern Knights (or Northern Districts) have awarded 14 of the 15 so far, the same as Canterbury.

Coach at Northern Knights is James Pamment, the former Lascelles Hall star from the famous Huddersfield sporting family.

He said: "This squad is a mix of youth and experience. We have been mentoring these young guys for a few years now and are really excited for them to be on contract with ND this year."
