Moorlands are the first club through to the Sykes Cup semi-finals.

The Drakes Premiership side from Mirfield defeated Cedar Court Conference leaders Rastrick by 69 runs to reach the last four of the arrowselfdrive knockout for the first time in their history.

After totalling 272 in wet conditions which left Rastrick very frustrated on Sunday, Darrell Sykes helped Moorlands finish the job on Monday evening by taking five for 38 as the Round Hill side were dismissed for 203.

Sykes pounced with three early wickets to leave Rastrick up against it at 7-3, but they rallied on the back of a century partnership between Aussie Mitchell McCoach and homegrown Oliver Ashford.

At the half way point, Ollie Pearson’s men were 107-3, exactly one run ahead of where Moorlands had been the previous day, but the tie soon swung against them after drinks.

Firstly McCoach was brilliantly caught and bowled by leg-spinner Michael Padgett for 39 which included six boundaries.

Then, in the 28th over, Ashford was caught at deep mid-wicket by David Winn to leave Rastrick 113-5 – his 59 including eight fours and two sixes and backing up an excellent bowling effort the previous day when he picked up four for 68 off 10.

There were some big hits down the order from Rastrick but, with 10 overs left, they were still 75 short and had only two wickets in the tent.

It was finally over in the 43rd over when Aussie all-rounder Chris Lloyd returned at the village end to remove Jack Pearson with a yorker with the scoreboard on 203.

Moorlands will now wait to see who they get in the semi-finals when the draw is made next week.

The other three quarter-final ties start this coming Sunday (1pm), with Jedi Sports Conference side Meltham hosting Premiership leaders Scholes at Mean Lane, Shelley taking on Barkisland at Westerley Lane and Golcar tackling Kirkburton at Swallow Lane.
