Expect fireworks when the Gladiators Boxing Academy stage their next show in Huddersfield.

They have billed the event ‘Expect Fireworks’ and it will be held at Huddersfield Sports Centre on Saturday, November 16.

It is the biggest show the Linthwaite-based club have ever put on – and they are looking for help to make it truly spectacular.

Coach Den Doyle explained: “This is our biggest show and we have every intention of making it our best.

“We are hoping that a member of the public, maybe a student, could kindly come forward and help with the lighting, smoke screen lasers and special effects.

“We have been donated a ring entrance in the shape of an American back-street gym, and the sports centre are hoping to have use of two brand-new spotlights they have ordered!

“We want to use special effects, lasers and smoke, to add to the atmosphere along with the music – just to add to the overall ambiance and make it a night to remember.”

Former Huddersfield favourite Dale Robinson will hand out the trophies on the night, which will feature 16 amateur bouts, while there will be guest appearances from current stars Tyrone Nurse and Ismail Anwar.

Coaches Doyle and Tom Mooney say there will be some terrific match-ups and while doors open at 7pm (there’s a bar and refreshments), the boxing begins an hour later.

Tickets are 10 (general) and 15 (ringside, limited seats) and are available from Doyle on 07960 251127 or Mooney on 07939 601172.

“We also want to ask the public if there is anyone wanting or willing to either sponsor a bout or the trophies, could they ring either myself or Tom Mooney,” added Doyle.

“We have four people making their Gladiator debuts on the night in Karo Jalal, Johnny Jackson, Jay Hines and our first-ever lady, Eleanor Murphy.”

Carl Frampton is on the verge of a world title tilt after an impressive sixth-round knockout of France’s Jeremy Parodi in Belfast on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old extended his unbeaten record to 17 wins from as many fights as he retained his European super-bantamweight title.

There was a partisan atmosphere inside the Odyssey Arena and Frampton gave the home support plenty to shout about, dominating the bout which was billed as an IBF world title eliminator and then delivering a brutal body shot, with Parodi dropping to his knees before being counted out.
