Neil Aspin believes composure is the key as FC Halifax Town try to book a Wembley trip and keep their bid for promotion to the Football League on track.

Lee Gregory’s 32nd goal of the season means the Shaymen take a 1-0 lead into Sunday’s Skrill Conference play-off semi-final second leg at Cambridge (1.30).

Gregory’s late effort from the penalty spot sparked celebrations among players and fans alike, irking opposition boss Richard Money.

But Shay chief Aspin, who hopes for a final clash with Grimsby or Gateshead as he bids for successive promotions, warned: “We’re only halfway through the tie.

“The lads were right to enjoy the other night, because they did what was asked, but we have a very difficult game coming up.

“We won’t go with the intention to just sit back.

“But we have to be realistic, we’re not just going to throw men forward and try and win the game in the first 10 minutes.

“We have to be composed. We can’t sit back, we have to play with a threat.

“We know we’ll have chances from set-pieces.

“But in general play, when you have a top scorer in the league (in Gregory), you know that if you can create chances for him, you are a threat in open play as well.”

The game will be shown live on ESPN.
